Types of cycling

Descending

This is one of the most extreme ways of riding. It means going down on a certain trail as the aim is as further distance as possible to be passed. In general, descending is practiced on specially prepared trails. In other countries each serous mountain resort owns at least such a trail. There is a similar one in Sopot, Bulgaria, but some paths, often used here and there, have had an unofficial “status” of trails. The most often way of going up is by lift. Descending is also a competitive discipline. There is a special protective equipment needed, which includes a helmet with a chin piece, back and ribbons protectors, elbow and shoulder protectors, and gloves.

Cross country

The cyclist overcomes various terrains in both directions, up and down, as he ties riding on more places. Riding is often bound up with overcoming of longer distances and height differences. It requires a lot of courage and technical skills.. Weight and efficiency of pedals are of great importance here. The equipment varies according to terrains and conditions. This is the most popular discipline because it is considerably cheaper, it can be practiced with friends.

Free riding

It is the most difficult style to be defined and it has been changing during the years. The main is riding down, the adrenaline is high, a lot of dangers exist, and bicycles are efficient to go through rough terrains, while the protective equipment appears to be quite serious and important. Dropping in rocks, picks, screes and other natural formations, where the bike is ridden without a trail or path and freely is chosen an appropriate line to move. Here, unlike descending, time is not important, but the number of overridden barriers is. Free riding can be practiced in the town too.

Muddy jumps

It is a specific way of riding, where two humps jumps are overcome made from terrene or of artificial materials formed in a way to lift up in the air in order to perform different tricks. The idea is taken from BMX riding.

Valuable things are in small packs

This rule is obligatory in mountain riding. It is nicer when the wheel is smaller. With the progress of technologies, the record holders are 3-4 weight bikes, but in descending such a weight can not exist. The lightest ones there are about 12 kilograms and you are lucky if your bike weighs about 14kilograms. The equipment also has to be as small as possible, but to be packed in a backksack to fit perfectly to the body. Even the most venturous competitors keep the most important rule- Always wear a helmet!
